MagPad / Taxi Magnet / Car Roof Magnet

MagPads, Mag Pads, Taxi Magnets and Car Roof Top Magnets are all the same item. They are widely used to hold items such as signs or lights (e.g. taxi signs, learner signs, response vehicle lighting) on to ferromagnetic surfaces (e.g. mild steel) such as car roof tops, van roofs, breakdown truck cab roofs, delivery van roofs, forklift truck roofs, etc.
The MagPads, Mag Pads, Taxi Magnets and Car Roof Top Magnets do not work on non-magnetic surfaces such as carbon fibre, plastic, filler repaired sections – they will not hold and will fall or slide off.
How well the MagPads, Mag Pads, Taxi Magnets and Car Roof Top Magnets will hold an item in place depends on the item you wish to hold e.g. a tall and wide large sign may be less aerodynamic and require more holding force than a short and narrow LED lighting strip. Sometimes the customer has to calculate the required force and empirically verify suitability.
As a rough guide, the shear force (force required to get the magnet to slide along a surface) is up to a maximum of twice the pull off force rating and this depends on the materials being clamped onto (thickness, quality of ferrous surface and magnetic permeability) and the friction levels. The MagPads, Mag Pads, Taxi Magnets and Car Roof Top Magnets need to be in direct contact with the ferromagnetic surfaces for best performance.

The MagPads, Mag Pads, Taxi Magnets and Car Roof Top Magnets Magnets comprise of magnets which are mounted onto a mild steel backplate. The magnets are then covered with a rubber or polyurethane layer. The rubber or polyurethane layer, if kept clean, prevents scratching and damage to the vehicle paintwork (assuming all surfaces are kept clean and dry). The polyurethane helps to limit the slide across the ferrous surface by providing extra friction (a flat surface is needed for the magnets to clamp onto) and stability. They are easy to remove with no damage to your vehicle.

The MagPads, Mag Pads, Taxi Magnets and Car Roof Top Magnets can also be used to attach e.g. lighting to make temporary lighting which clamps onto mild steel girders without damaging any of the paintwork – they make great temporary clamping systems where paintwork and surface damage needs to be minimised.

The Mini MagPad has powerful NdFeB magnets, covered in rubber, with two 5mm holes in the steel backing plate (one at each end) to allow fixing, with a maximum pull force of up to 12kg.
The standard MagPad has ferrite magnets, covered in polyurethane, and is supplied with a 16mm long M6 thread at the back of the backing plate (a M6 nut is also supplied), with a maximum pull force of up to 9kg.

These are typically used to attach signs attach signs to the roofs of vehicles, e.g. taxi signs, breakdown trucks, delivery vans.
